“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”
Jeremiah 29:7
As Anthology Church and as followers of Jesus we believe one of our greatest callings is to serve our city and make it a better place. We believe we are called to seek justice, serve the poor and oppressed, and help make the city the best it can be in every possible way. But why?
It all comes from God's Story, the gospel. In the gospel we are told we were poor, helpless, and needy. God stooped down in Jesus to our level to serve us and rescue us, even when we didn't deserve it. And he went to the cross to give everything to us. So, since we as followers of Jesus have been given everything, how can we not serve everyone in return?
On top of that the end of God's Story says that we will live in peace & harmony with God in a city, using our gifts and talents to make it the best place it can be for everyone. We have a chance to live out that purpose now in seeking to better our city anyway we can.
